Gary R. Johnson

Gary R. Johnson, 81, of Moline, Illinois, passed Sunday, May 3, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will take place immediately following at Moline Memorial Park. A funeral luncheon will be held following burial at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, in Gary’s memory.

Gary Russell Johnson was born on January 29, 1945, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Wilbert and Katherine (Gnatovich) Johnson. Gary proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. He attended Northern Illinois University and went on to dedicate over 25 years to Office Supply: Illinois-Iowa Solutions.

He married Marsha McLane, and the two later separated. He then married Linda Saunders on May 28, 1976, in Moline, Illinois, and together they shared 50 wonderful years.

Gary was a devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. He was known for his sociable nature and genuine warmth. He enjoyed traveling, especially his annual trips to Northern California, taking his grandchildren to Disney, and exploring wineries. Gary rarely missed a grandchild’s event; often making a stop at the concession stand for a hotdog and popcorn along the way. He also found joy in quieter moments at home, watching golf.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Johnson of Moline, Illinois; son, Scott (Jennifer) Johnson of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren, Zachary (Marlana) Johnson and Sydney (Dayton Tharp) Johnson; great-grandson, Wade Johnson; and brother, Stephen (Nancy) Johnson of Rock Island, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Katherine Johnson; and brother, Wayne Johnson.
