Gary A. Forret, 78, of Moline, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 12, 2024.
A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for 11am on Friday, April 5, 2024, with a lunch following, at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Literacy Connection, a cause dear to Gary's heart, at 1611 41st Street, Moline, IL 61265.
Gary Allen Forret was born on January 29, 1945, in Moline, to Roger and Anne (Marsho) Forret. In 1965, he married Shirley Stewart in Moline. Gary graduated from Moline High School and earned an Associate degree from Black Hawk College. He dedicated 35 years to John Deere Seeding Group, working as a tool and die maker and seeding pro. He later spent 14 years at Almon, Inc., providing product catalogue tech support until retiring in 2017.
A devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church for 44 years, Gary actively participated in the choir, held various leadership roles, and served as chairman of The Literacy Connection. He was very social and mechanical, cherished moments with his family, and enjoyed golf and being outdoors.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; three children and their spouses, Jeff and Beth Forret of Moline, Todd and Lesley Forret of East Moline, and Jennifer and Michael Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Gracie and Connor Forret, and Kiah and Ellie Johnson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Jan Forret of Catlin, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Kathy Mitton.
