Fern R. Johnson

April 17, 1940 — July 18, 2025

Moline, Illinois

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fern Ruth (Kincaid) Johnson, age 85, longtime resident of Moline, Illinois, currently residing at Park Vista Retirement Living, East Moline. Fern passed peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, immediately followed by a luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe (lower level). Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Fern was born April 17, 1940 to Roger and Ruth (Allen) Kincaid. She graduated from East Moline High School and worked at the local ice cream store where she ended up meeting the love of her life, Ronald L. Johnson, who worked across the street at the Gas station in 1957. They were married October 10, 1959 and nurtured their relationship for 65 blessed years. Fern worked at Illini Hospital for 23 years in the HR department, retiring in 2001.

She was a wonderful and loving person. Many looked to her for advice or help in their time of need. She was the oldest of nine children. She often took on the role of “Mother”, a role she was born for. She gave great hugs. She would never miss sending birthday or anniversary cards. She was a very thoughtful and kind person who would go to the ends of the earth to make her Grandkids and Great-Grandkids happy: Hence the nickname, “Grandma-Spoils”! She loved spending time fishing in Minnesota with her family.

In her early years she was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, and Girls Scouts. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Most recently she served as the Secretary of Healthy Lifestyles in Moline. She loved watching Caitlin Clark wherever she was playing.

Those left to honor her memory are her loving husband, Ron; daughter, Christine Woods, sons, Dan (Alicia) Johnson, and Darren (Carla) Johnson; grandchildren, Erica, Nick (Meghan), Mitchell (Mary), Dominic, Matthew, and Rachael; great-grandchildren, Wells, Lydia and Harrison; sister, Marge Benton; and sisters-in-law, Deb and Teresa Kincaid.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers, Buddy, Joe and Scott; sisters, RuthAnn, Sandy, Tisha, and Sally; and in-laws, Benhard and Nellie Johnson.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and aides at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Dr Sorensen, Hospice nurses Anne and Kramer, Chaplains Thomas and Chris, and Dr. Dawn Bode for their loving care over the past two years.

The family invites friends to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
