The former Evelyn Rae Batchelder was born July 30, 1936 in Jones County, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Marcella (Murfield) Batchelder. She married Lloyd Mohr in May 1968. He died April 15, 2006.
She attended and graduated from Olin High School, continued her education at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport with her teaching degree. Evelyn taught sixth grade in the Clinton school system for twenty-five years.
She was a world traveler, especially enjoying her trips to all continents except the North and South Pole. She was very athletic, playing 6 on 6 basketball in her younger years and golfing in more recent years. She was an avid reader and excellent bridge player. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Evelyn, and she will always be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Evelyn is survived by three adult children, Marcy Schlotfelt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marty Jo Denicus of Davenport, and Kyle (Lisa Farrar) Schlotfelt of Arizona; two grandchildren, Rachel (Tony Hoffman) Denicus of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Jenna Denicus of Davenport; her beloved great-granddaughter, Hazel Jo Hoffman; and siblings Gail (Brasso) Federick of Olin, Iowa, Nancy Derynck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Lori Harris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law, Robert F. Denicus.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgecrest Village – especially those in memory care and Unity Point Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and compassion in Evelyn’s final year.
