Eugene K. Rogers

Eugene K. Rogers, 93, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, with his daughters by his side.


Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot of Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 10:45 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Eugene Klell Rogers was born September 21, 1929, in Dallas, Iowa, the son of William and Ruth (Fletcher) Rogers. He married Giovina Maria Matese on January 10, 1959, in Joliet, Illinois. She died May 26, 2001.


Gene retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and went on to work for Commonwealth Edison in Cordova, Illinois, for over 22 years, retiring in 1989.


He enjoyed hiking, biking and backpacking, as well as traveling and vacationing with his grandsons.


Gene is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Clarisa (Eugene, Jr.) Mattecheck of Moline, and Diana (F. Dwayne) Helling of Colona, Illinois; five grandsons, Ian (Morgan Park) Dunsworth of Rock Island, Chase Mattecheck of Moline, Zachary (Alexandra Oberg) Helling of Moline, Nicholas Helling of Moline, and Lucas (Jade Katen-Ynzunza) Helling of Gilroy, California; and a great-granddaughter, Willow Helling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Giovina; his parents; and siblings, John, Gordon, Leonard and Warren Rogers, and Dorothy Wilkinson.
