Obituary

Elaine V. Schroeder, 89, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, at Pine Hill Cemetery. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club.

The former Elaine Velma Schlichting was born January 3, 1937, in Davenport, the daughter of Leroy and Florence (Clark) Schlichting. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Leo Louis Schroeder, on October 2, 1966.

Elaine worked at Arnold’s Clothing and Bayer’s Real Estate, but her greatest joy came from being a homemaker and building a life with Leo. Together, they raised their three children until his untimely passing on May 8, 1981. Though his loss was profound, Elaine continued to devote herself to the family they had created.

Family remained at the heart of Elaine’s life, and nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her grandchildren, who were her greatest pride and joy. She treasured watching her family grow and the special memories they shared.

Elaine had a love for music and played the organ in her younger years. She was a member and past president of the Hammond Organ Society and also belonged to the Orchid Society. She enjoyed caring for plants and crocheting.

Elaine is survived by three children, Michelle McKinnis of Davenport, Michael (Dawn) Schroeder of Bettendorf, and Lisa Ackerman of Ames, Iowa; and her grandchildren, Alan-Michael (Daniela) Schroeder, Sean Ackerman, Alec Ackerman, Zach Schroeder, Madison McKinnis, Olivia McKinnis, and Kylie McKinnis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her son-in-law, Keith McKinnis; and her sister, Elmira Schlichting.
