Dr. E.E. “Ed” Martin, DDS, 75, of Orion, Illinois, long-time Coal Valley Dentist, died Friday, January 6, 2023, at home.
Private burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley.
Earl Edwin Martin was born November 28, 1947, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Robert and Ruth (Lees) Martin. He graduated from Moline High School in 1965 and Augustana College in 1969. He went on to earn his Doctorate from Northwestern University in 1973, graduating 3rd in his class.
He married Lynn (Clark) Coe on October 2, 2002, on a golf course in Maui, Hawaii. Previously, he had been married to Sharon Wallace, with whom he had two daughters.
Ed was a well-respected Dentist in Coal Valley, owning and operating “E.E. Martin, DDS” from 1975 until he retired in 2018. He was a member of the Rock Island Dental Society and the American Dental Society.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a talented golfer. He enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lynn; two daughters, Amanda (Robert) Thompson of Henderson, Nevada, and Meghan (Jeff) Bontrager of Westfield, Indiana; three step-sons, Darrick (Jess) Hamerlinck, Tyler Hamerlinck, and Tanner Coe; two granddaughters, Mallory and Whitney Bontrager; four step-grandsons; two step-granddaughters; two brothers, Gary (Mary Kay) Martin of Port Byron, Illinois, and Doug (Julia) Martin of Coal Valley; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends including Dr. Mark (Varla) Bare of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.
