Richard E. Verscha, 73, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at home.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Jim DeBisschop officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m Sunday at the church, with a Rosary beginning at 5:30 p.m. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richard Verscha Memorial Fund to be established by the family. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Eugene Verscha was born March 15, 1937, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Bernard and Bernice (Opalka) Verscha. He married Mary Ann Rogers on June 2, 1973, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Dick served in the United States Army until 1958. He worked for John Deere Plow and Planter Works in Moline, and later at the parts depot, Milan. He worked at John Deere for 29 years, retiring August, 1998.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children and their spouses, Melinda Lawson-Irazarry and Robert, of League City, Texas, Sherry Ramirez of Rock Island, Illinois, Dan and Jennifer Verscha of Rock Island, Rick and Kari Verscha of Moline, Debbie Boelens of Geneseo, Illinois, and Diane and Ken Poppy of Lynn Center, Illinois; a sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Dave Wiggins of Springfield, Illinois, a brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Judy Verscha of Colona, Illinois; and grandchildren, Noah Verscha, Jonathon, Thomas and Caroline Ramirez, Christopher and Matthew Lawson, Alex Boelens, Allison Lee, and John and Emma Poppy.
