On Monday, July 11, 2022 Dorothy Mae Davis passed away peacefully in her sleep in her beloved son’s home in Belleville, IL.
Dorothy, known as “Ditta” to her loved ones, was born on October 29, 1944 in Carson Lake, Arkansas to Oliver Edward Harris, Sr. and Georgia Mae (Harris) Strong. Dorothy moved to Rock Island, IL in 1958 and completed her G.E.D. in the Quad Cities. She spent many years working in Illinois State Mental Hospital and retired from East Moline Correctional Center as a corrections officer. In 1977, Dorothy married Cleo Davis, Sr. who was her partner in life and in business for many years. She owned and operated The Big Dipper, Silver Streak Lounge, and Mr. Nate’s Tavern.
Dorothy was devoted to her family and contributed to hosting bi-annual family reunions for many years to keep the family connected. In her best times she enjoyed dancing, playing cards and drives around Sunset Marina in Rock Island. She was a phenomenal cook and spent her time watching Young and the Restless, her favorite soap opera. Dorothy was the best storyteller and could make just about anyone laugh. She enjoyed sharing her wisdom with others.
She loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own children, including her special nieces who lived with her many years, Delores (Harris) Owens and Wyvette Harris.
She is preceded in death by her parents Oliver Edward Harris, Sr. and Georgia Mae (Harris) Strong; her husband Cleo Davis, Sr.; her siblings Rose Ruth (Jerry) Morrow ,Oliver Edward Harris, Jr., Charles Lenver Harris, Evelyn Jean Harris, and Danny Ray Harris.
She leaves behind her children Roland Wesley McCorkle, Deborah McCorkle, Gregory Allen McCorkle “Scutter”, Alonzo Kyle, Cleo (Tara) Davis, Jr; stepchildren Brandolyn Davis, and Claudine Davis; 12 very special grandchildren and 19 extraordinary great grandchildren. Her love was endless.
Memorial contributions can be made at Trimble Funeral Homes, 701 12 Street Moline, IL and services will be held at Word of Life Church, 1804 7th Avenue Rock Island, IL on July 18, 2022. Visitation begins at 11:00am with eulogy service beginning at 12:00pm. Burial service will be held at Davenport Memorial Park, 1022 E. 39th Street Davenport, IA with the repast at Word of Life Church immediately following.
