The former Dolores Jean Acton was born November 9, 1931, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Bryce and Essie (Best) Acton. She graduated from Hamilton High School Magna Cum Laude in 1949 and was awarded an academic scholarship to the University of Cincinnati.
She was secretary to the Director of Salary Administration with Champion Paper Inc. in Hamilton, Ohio for several years. She married Dick Frybarger in 1955. They knew each other in high school but didn’t marry until after Dick obtained his graphic communication degree and served in the Korean War. Dick was the love of her life, they had a long, fabulous, loving life together. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in April of 2025.
To them were born two loving children, Saundra L. (Frybarger) Kayne, DVM, who has a veterinarian practice with her loving husband, Bill, in Carbondale, Illinois, and Douglas Frybarger, who died in a plane crash when he was 32. Dolores was blessed with three wonderful, loving grandchildren, Maya, Alex (Maria), and Sara Kayne.
Many times, Dolores expressed that she preferred to work outside the home, but Dick lovingly persuaded her to concentrate on being an excellent wife, mother and homemaker. She was extremely dedicated and proud of the creativity, academics, and sports achievements of her children and grandchildren. She cherished their love.
Dolores and Dick spent 20 years wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida. Dolores was an avid sun-worshipper, enjoying sunbathing and golf. She often humorously reminded Dick that she had three holes-in-one and he had none. She traveled extensively with Dick, primarily playing golf at renowned courses in the U.S., Scotland, England, Canada and numerous trips to Hawaii.
She was a member of Short Hills Country Club for more than 40 years, First Christian Church in Moline, and later 15th Avenue Christian Church in Rock Island.
She served as a Deaconess and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, The King’s Daughters, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, golf, reading, sewing, and playing Bridge. Dolores particularly enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise with her friend, Jackie, and a trip to London, England, visiting the past love of her son, Doug.
Dolores always had a smile and loved to give hugs. Her love of family was predominant and she will be greatly missed by all.
