Deanna Kay Swales Hansen, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Hope Creek Care Center, surrounded by loved ones.
Deanna was born March 9, 1957, in Moline the daughter of Bart and Kay (Quante) Swales. She graduated from Moline High School in 1975, and from Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska. She had a varied career including hiring for the Union Pacific Railroad, running temporary employment agencies and setting up displays for General Foods. In younger days she lived in different areas of the country, and made many friends wherever she was. Her warm smile and loving manner drew people to her naturally.
Deanna enjoyed having fun with friends, planning family get-togethers (hoping she knew how much her efforts were truly appreciated), working in the house and yard keeping everything ship-shape, and always learning about new things. Her faith was deep, and she lived the Golden Rule, treating others as she would want to be treated.
She was preceded in death by her father Bart, her brother Brian, maternal grandparents Lawrence and Veve Quante, Rose Phelps and paternal grandmother Dorothy Swales.
Surviving are her mother, Kay (Bill Favri) Swales, sister Julie (Craig) Lothson and brother Jim (Pam) Swales along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
A hospitality gathering to celebrate Deanna’s life will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, November 3, in CityView Celebrations on the lower level of Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 4, at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline, with visitation one hour prior to service. Memorials may be made to the church.
