Dawn was born June 7, 1967, in Long Beach, California, the daughter of Jerry and Judith (Clark) Thurman.
She worked for Robert Young Center until 2010. Dawn was a long-time, active member of Heritage Church. She accepted Jesus at a young age and was baptized as a teenager. She received her first heart transplant on September 9, 1988, and her second heart and kidney transplant in October of 2019.
She loved her chocolates (if you bought it for her you didn’t expect to get any). She loved her family, friends, Chicago Bears football, and Kenny Chesney. Her favorite color was purple and she loved to smell lilacs. She enjoyed playing Bingo and bowling. Above all else, she loved her grandbabies: Aidan, Laila and Ava were here whole world, but most of all her son, Joshua and his wife, Jessica.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Jessica Thurman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Laila and Avalynne Thurman; her parents, Judy and Jerry Thurman of Davenport; a brother and sister-in-law, Jody and Lisa Thurman of Silvis, Illinois; a sister and brother-in-law, Shannon and George Keckler of Davenport; nieces and nephews, Joseph Thurman, Brianna and Colton Burge, Anthony Keckler, and Hannah Keckler; her aunt and uncle, Tammy Lee of Fontana, California, and Raymond Clark of Gold Bar, Washington, and their families. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and the love of her life, Steve Churchill.
The family would like to thank everyone at Beacon of Hope Hospice, and the University of Iowa and University of Wisconsin transplant teams, as well as the Restoring Hope Transplant House in Middlebrook, Wisconsin, Lorene and Barry Traver, Marjie Koberg, and Julie Music for the wonderful care given to Dawn over the years.
The family invites friends to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
