David R. Sorensen, 81, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, March 4, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Rev. Pat Halverson officiating. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. An additional open house to celebrate David’s life will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at his home, 1601 16th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Bereskin Art Gallery and Art Academy Scholarship Fund.
David Richard Sorensen was born December 7, 1940, in Moline, to Edward and Mable (Neumann) Sorensen. He graduated from Moline High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He married Cathy Douglas, with whom he had two children. He later married Catherine Kuk on July 21, 1996, in Davenport.
David worked for Channel 8 as a news reporter and cinematographer for five years. He then worked for John Deere as a welder for over 25 years. In retirement, he worked as a seasonal gardener for the city of Moline for 13 years.
He was a member of the Left Bank Art League. He enjoyed gardening and flowers. He was also a well-known local eclectic photographer who especially enjoyed wildlife and bugs.
David is survived by two children, Krista Schutz of Davenport, and Aaron (Patty) Sorensen of Itasca, Illinois; four grandchildren, Sophia, Jenna, and Ava Schutz, and Isabella Sorensen; “His Catherine”, Catherine Sorensen; and a sister, Boni (Ward) Thompson of Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Annalea Schutz.
