David Lee Butler was born on December 11, 1969, in Rock Island, Illinois the son of J.B. and Delorise (Sanders) Butler. He graduated from Rock Island High School with the Class of 1989 and dedicated more than 30 years to production at PB Leiner. He and the love of his life, Melissa Sloman, shared 39 wonderful years together and were married on November 10, 1997.
David enjoyed relaxing in the garage with a cigar while listening to good music. He loved playing darts, bowling, fishing, and watching movies, but nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family and friends. A lifelong sports enthusiast and former athlete, he especially enjoyed watching boxing and wrestling and even liked to step into the ring himself from time to time. He had a talent for fixing just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, loud-outspoken nature, and remarkable courage.
David is survived by his wife, Melissa Butler; children, Thomas Butler and his wife, Jorgie, of Bettendorf, Iowa, Alyssa Butler of Romeoville, Illinois, and Alexis Butler of Rock Island, Illinois; grandbabies, Lela, Giavanna, and Taytum; parents, J.B. and Delorise Butler of Rock Island, Illinois; siblings, Freddie and her husband, Larry Hall, Tim Butler, Katherine Butler, and Jeff Butler; and his dog, Chance. He was preceded in death by his brother Varthur Butler and his dog, Caesar.
As he faced the end of his journey, his greatest concern was for those he loved most. He wanted to be sure that his beloved wife would never be alone and asked his children to watch over and care for their mother, just as she would always care for them. His enduring hope was that they would remain united, carrying each other through life’s joys and sorrows with love, strength, and compassion.
