Daniel L. Matthews

Daniel L. Matthews, 59, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, formerly of Matherville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his home in Barefoot Bay, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Dan’s memory.

Dan was born on October 11, 1965, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Denny and Ardine Matthews. He married his soulmate, Tiffaney Scott, on September 2, 1989, in East Moline, Illinois. Together, they shared a love-filled marriage of 35 years and raised three beautiful daughters.

Dan dedicated 28 years to serving his community as a correctional officer with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department before retiring in 2021. Following retirement, Dan and Tiffaney relocated to Florida, where they built cherished friendships and enjoyed the coastal lifestyle.

Dan’s passions included playing bags, fishing, and creating memories with his loved ones. Above all, his family was his greatest joy, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Tiffaney; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kaylee Matthews of East Moline, Ashlee and Travis Spriet of Rock Island, and Haylee and Josh Jett of East Moline; his grandchildren, Jaylee and Ellee Matthews, Rylee and Eli Spriet, and Leeim, Oaklee and Millee Jett; his father, Denny Matthews; and siblings, Vickie Franks and Keith Matthews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ardine Richardson, and a grandson, Maddux Taylor.
