Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by graveside services and burial at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities will present military honors. Daniel Joseph Begyn was born February 23, 1952, in Rock Island, the son of Daniel and Dorothy (Burns) Begyn. On July 29, 1972, he married the love of his life, Nancy Greenwood, in Honolulu, Hawaii. They shared 54 years of marriage and a lifetime of adventures, laughter, family, and memories.

Dan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a machinist and welder for John Deere. Dan and Nancy also enjoyed five memorable years living in Colorado, where Dan worked for Evergreen Disposal Service in Golden. He often bragged about one of his customers being none other than Willie Nelson.

Dan Begyn the garbage man, cabin making, Mississippi fishing, Colorado Mountain climbing, guitar playing, Bear Wrestling, skydiving, animal loving kind of guy.

Above all, Dan loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend who will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and adventurous spirit.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his two daughters, Sally (Mike) Serpa of Moline, and Sarah (Joshua) Bognar of Milan; his mother, Dorothy Begyn of Andalusia, Illinois; five grandchildren, Andrew Serpa, and Bailah, Estellah, Annah, and Veirah Bognar; siblings, Kathy (Tom) Stigers, Patrick Begyn, Michael (Janet) Begyn, Clarissa (Chris) Stark, and Christopher (Kari) Begyn; lifelong friends, Mike Cheek and Randy Adams; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Begyn; brother, Dennis Begyn; sister, Carol Schaefer; and his two beloved cats, Sawdust and Gorbie.
