Cynthia M. Nacin, 79, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, passed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a later date. Cremation took place with a private family gathering at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Cynthia Nacin was born on May 24, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Leona Stanke. She attended Good Council High School in Chicago, Illinois. She went on to get her Bachelors of Nursing from the University of Illinois, where she met the love of her life, Robert Nacin. She married Robert in September of 1969, in Chicago, Illinois, and the two were married for 56 years.
Cynthia dedicated her life to caring for others. Her nursing career spanned many years and included service as a school nurse at Jordan Catholic School, a parish nurse, an educator, and a nurse at the Rock Island County Health Department. Cynthia was greatly loved and made an impact on so many lives, through her patience, kindness, willingness to listen, and even imparting information that saved lives.
Growing up Catholic, Cynthia attended many different churches in the Quad Cities. She enjoyed gardening, learning new things, and cooking. Family and friends especially looked forward to her famous homemade Polish dishes, including rosettes and golumpki. Cynthia expressed her love through her gifts. She was known for buying birthday gifts months in advance and already having them wrapped in anticipation of the joy those gifts would bring. And if it wasn’t your birthday, you still received a gift every time you visited.
She loved sharing stories with her family, like the time William Shatner wished her a happy birthday or recounting all the accomplishments of her grandkids. She knew every major and minor detail about what was going on in her family’s life.
A person’s true character is revealed in the hardest of times; Cynthia was consistently the same patient and loving person in good times and in bad, rooting herself in her love for God and Blessed Mary.
Cynthia is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Jennifer (Kyle) Irwin and Kathleen (Josh) Youngs; grandchildren, Jonathan, Connor, Benjamin, and Kahlan; siblings, Joanne Muraski and Leona (Paul) Cortis, multiple nieces and nephews; and a host of friends whom loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Leona; and a niece, Jennifer.
Condolences may be shared at CremationQC.com.
