Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory with private burial at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Chris’ memory.

Christopher Robert Scannell was born September 30, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Patricia (Bolton) Scannell. He graduated from Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, where he ran track. He stood out on the church league basketball court - when his father, the coach, let him play. He grew up spending summers hanging out at The Lake, a tradition he continued in his adult years, as well. He married Maureen Huff, and together they raised four children. Though the couple later separated, they remained friends.

Chris began his long career at John Deere in 1977 and spent nearly four decades with the company.

A true Chicago sports fan through and through, Chris rooted passionately for the White Sox, Bears, and Bulls. (He was also well-known for his distaste for the Cubs.) He was deeply proud of his Irish roots and a passionate supporter of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.

Chris had a love for music, plants, bird-watching, lava lamps, Groucho masks, and all things eclectic decor. He made a legendary salsa and took pride in cooking for others. His backyard was often the setting for impromptu Sunday gatherings, filled with laughter and good tunes.

He will be remembered as a man with a kind heart and a wonderfully weird sense of humor. He was a father figure to more than just his four children, with many referring to Chris as “Pops.”

Above all, Chris cherished time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. While he would have preferred a quiet send-off, he would want you to know, in his own words, “my time has come.”

Chris is survived by his four children, Jenny (Mike) Endzel of Chicago, Illinois, Ryan (Ashley) Scannell of Moline, Katie (Justin) Taylor of Coal Valley, and Tyler Scannell of Pleasant Ridge, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Scarlett, Jack, and Ellie Endzel, Madelynn Hayes, and Alayna, Blake and Aubrey Taylor; six siblings, William (Kris) Scannell, Kelly Landmeier, Tracy (Mark) Hollendonner, Sean (Tricia) Scannell, Erin (James) Koziol, and Megan Scannell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
