Charles Andrew Phillips was born April 22, 1953, in Waverly, Tennessee, the son of Griffin and Lillian (Gholston) Phillips. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for nearly ten years before joining Oscar Mayer—later Kraft Foods—where he dedicated 20 years of service. After retiring, C.A. found joy in giving back to others through volunteering at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island for another decade.
A proud and active member of Pentecostal Church of God, C.A. loved his church and the community it brought him. He was a true wrestling enthusiast and never turned down a chance to enjoy a good meal with family and friends. He also found comfort in R&B and Gospel music, a good Western on TV, and the chance to travel when he could.
More than anything, C.A. was a devoted family man. His greatest joy came from time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him Dad, Grandpa, and Pop-Pop.
C.A. is survived by five children, Lamon (Danielle Harris) Phillips, Sr. of Davenport, Tiffany Phillips of Davenport, Tierney (Michael Holliday) Phillips of Rock Island, Lamar (Megan Scudder) Phillips, Sr. of Davenport, and Charise (David Jefferson, Jr.) Phillips of Rock Island; 12 grandchildren, Jasmin, Lamon Jr., Tayvaughn, Tecoe, Teriona, Mikari, Lamar Jr., Lamariana, Lamarcus, Antwan, Ramal, and Destyni; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Walton and Barbara Luten; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nathaniel, Ernest, Barry Sr., James, and Ronald Phillips; and sisters, Louise Mays, Lola Mae Phillips, and Audrey Phillips.
