Carolyn Kay Karasek was born November 18, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, to Edward and Esther (Vergo) Karasek. She married James Carsell on August 21, 1960, in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Carolyn was an elementary school teacher, retiring from the Bettendorf School District in 2005. Carolyn began her teaching career at Ericsson Elementary School on the 2 plus 2 program for teachers. Shortly after her marriage to Jim, she had a career in television as "Miss Carolyn" on Romper Room.

As an active member of Elim Covenant Church, she served on various committees and also helped in the kitchen and delivered homemade meals to many. She was an avid China Painter, always perfecting her art, and served as the President of the Mississippi River Bend Porcelain Artists.

Carolyn served as Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, and was active with the Moline Boys Choir. She was an avid supporter of arts, especially Music Guild and Circa ’21. Above all else, church and family were the most important things to Carolyn, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Jim; children, J. Patrick (Laurel) Carsell of Dalton, Massachusetts, Chris Carsell of Moline, and Susie (Joe) Schaechter of Moline; grandchildren, Emilie (Joseph) Mathias, Blake (Sarah Polo) Carsell, Rebecca (Jeremiah) Clark, and Kate Schaechter; great-grandchildren, Shepherd Mathias, Cambridge Mathias, and Maxine Carsell; and her sister, Patricia Karasek.
