He graduated from Moline High School in 1955 and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, where he played on the golf team for four years and served as captain his senior year.
He married Joyce Head on August 7, 1961, in Memphis, Tennessee, and the couple had three children together prior to separating.
Hap worked at Stifel Nicolaus in Moline as a broker for many years before purchasing Edstrom Carpet & Interiors, Moline, which he owned and operated until retiring and moving to Florida. He was an active member of First Congregational Church, Moline, and more recently First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers.
Deeply involved in his community, Hap served on the boards of First Congregational Church, the Moline School Board, the YMCA, the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and Young Life, which he helped start with Joyce.
Golf was Hap’s lifelong passion. He recorded his first hole-in-one at Congressional Golf Course in Washington, D.C., and went on to achieve six more at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club. Over the years, he enjoyed memberships at Short Hills Country Club (where he was Club Champion), Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, Colonial Country Club in Fort Myers, and most recently at Hideaway Country Club in Fort Myers.
Hap is survived by three children, Jeff Georlett of Chicago, Rev. J.D. (Laura) Georlett of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sarah (Robert) Brewer of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Pierce (Beth) Georlett, Kayla (Zach) Williamson, and Grant Georlett; brother, David (Margo) Georlett of Moline; and nieces and nephews, David (Lisa) Claycomb, Johanna (Dan) McMullan, Kyle (Jacqueline) Georlett, and Kari (Tim) Washburn; great-nieces and great-nephews, Claire and Leah McMullan, Parker and Ethan Georlett, and Delaney and Owen Orendorff; and his significant other, Janet Flanigan, who took wonderful care of Hap in his final days.
