Brian Stanley Olson was born January 29, 1955, in Moline, the son of Carl “Stanley” and Verle Lucille (Ramsden) Olson. He graduated from Moline High School in 1973 and went on to marry the love of his life, Sherri Carothers, on October 7, 1978.
Brian and Sherri first met in a youth group as teenagers, at the church where they were later married and then attended as a family. Their faith in Jesus was a cornerstone of the life they built together. They raised two boys in the home that Brian built and made countless memories as a family and as a couple. Brian and Sherri were married 46 years and shared some of their favorite memories together in the mountains of Colorado.
Brian had a 40-year career in construction, working as a superintendent. He was a proud member of the local Carpenters Union #4. Although his colleagues and loved ones admired all the buildings he built, what they admired most was his incredible work ethic and integrity. He often took his sons to the job sites to show what he was working on. When his job would take him out of town, he drove back to Moline in time for his sons’ Little League baseball games and football games. He retired from construction in 2017 and went on to work part-time in maintenance for the East Moline School District and in several capacities for Trimble Funeral Home.
Brian enjoyed riding his different motorcycles over the years and most recently his Honda Goldwing Trike. In retirement, he especially enjoyed taking part in charitable rides for organizations like Toys for Tots. He truly had a big heart for others.
He enjoyed the little things in retirement too, like the sound of birds singing each morning while he sipped his coffee on the back deck.
Brian was a member of Coram Deo Bible Church in Davenport. There he participated in men's Bible studies and built great relationships with those around him.
Brian’s family was very important to him. One of his greatest joys was supporting his grandchildren at their various events. Whether it was a track meet in Sterling, a volleyball game at TBK, or a cup stacking event at Wharton Field House, Grampa was there. Always ready afterwards with a smile, a hug, and usually a snack.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Brittany Olson, and Chad Olson, both of Moline; his grandchildren Chase and Laina Olson; and sisters, Jacqueline (Bob) Hannum of Bloomington, Indiana, and Debra (Brian) Lanzen of Osceola, Wisconsin, a brother in law, Arly Bloom of Aurelia, Iowa, and a sister in law and brother in law, Sheila and Sid Hensley of Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Bloom.
