Bernard C. Sommer, 75, of East Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at home.
A hospitality gathering to celebrate Bernie’s life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2020, in CityView Celebrations on the lower level at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to QC Paws.
Bernard Clement Sommer was born December 30, 1946, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Jacob and Margaret (Rustermier) Sommer. He married Vicki Lee Jacobson on March 4, 1967, in Lincoln. Following college, he was a counselor with the US Job Corps both in Lincoln and Washington D.C.. He moved to the Quad Cities in 1968 to work in industrial sales at Plant Equipment Company, becoming its Vice President and co-owner, retiring after 46 years.
Bernie coached both youth baseball and basketball and was a leader in both Cub and Boy Scouts.
He served on the East Moline District 37 School Board for 10 years. He loved golf and was a member at Pinnacle Country Club and had many cherished friendships among the golfers.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Vicki; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Sanchia Sommer of East Moline; two grandchildren, Jacob and Kaisa Sommer; sisters, Linda Sommer and Kathy Wrolstad, both of Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Deb Minch of Moline; nieces, Theresa Wrolstad of Lincoln, and Devon Renee Minch of St. Petersburg, Florida; a nephew, Ryan Minch and his wife Courtney of Moline; and a great-niece, Mariah Minch.
