Barbara A. Wedeking

Barbara A. Wedeking, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, passed on Friday, January 16, 2026, at her residence.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place following the service at Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Scott County Humane Society.

Barbara Ann Wedeking was born on July 29, 1942, in Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Virginia (Bisbee) Wedeking. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Barb dedicated more than 30 years to education as a girls’ physical education teacher, coach, and referee at the JB Young Junior High.

She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport. In her free time, Barb enjoyed bicycling and walking. She had a deep love for travel and adventure, often hopping in the car to drive across the United States to visit family and friends. She and her close friend, LaeUna, shared many memorable rafting trips, including an excursion through the Grand Canyon sleeping under the stars with nothing more than a sleeping bag. They also participated in a Wagon Train Trip.

Barb loved attending social events and parties with her friends and had an especially big heart for animals, taking in as many rescued cats and dogs as she could.

Barb is survived by her friend and longtime roommate, LaeUna DeWitt of Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a deeply caring and loving person who always did everything she could for her family, her students, and anyone else who needed her compassion and care.
