Arthur Thomas La Mere was born on January 28, 1955, in Torrance, California, to Thomas Reid and Marilyn Pearl (MacInnes) La Mere. He married the love of his life, Linda Lee Myers, on October 22, 1977, in Hawthorne, California. Art proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1984, and after his service, he built a career as a Field Service Technician with Bell & Howell, retiring in 2016.
Art was a do-it-yourself kind of guy who never shied away from a project. He loved woodworking, tinkering in the garage, and fixing just about anything he could get his hands on. He also had a love for travel—especially family trips to Branson, Missouri, where he soaked up live shows, good food, and time well spent. Fishing brought him peace, and time with his grandchildren brought him joy. His grandkids knew him simply as “Papa,” and that title meant everything to him.
He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and found strength in faith, family, and service. He lived a life full of purpose, laughter, and love—and left behind memories that will be cherished forever.
Art is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Matthew Thomas La Mere of Bettendorf; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara Elizabeth and David Mangum of Bettendorf; and a daughter-in-law, Rachel La Mere of Davenport. He was incredibly proud of his nine grandchildren: Kayla Marie La Mere, Gage Matthew La Mere, Hailey Sue La Mere, Holly Sue La Mere, Evelyn Rose La Mere, Alexander Curtis Shelly-La Mere, Thomas Marc Mangum, Lillian Etta Mangum, and Eleanor Lee Mangum. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David and Lisa La Mere; his sister, Virginia La Mere; and nieces and nephew Shelley Marie (La Mere)Medrano, Kendall Noelle (Medrano) Sellers, Madison Grace Medrano, Charlotte Grace Sellers, Tracey Renee (La Mere) Dewar, Jaimey Lynn (La Mere) Roe, Isabella Renee Mijares, Gianna Nicole La Mere, Connor LaMere, and Shelby La Mere.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Brian T. and Erik Arthur La Mere, his brother, Albert La Mere, and both of his parents.
