Agnes I. Barnhouse, 92, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 29, 2025, at home.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley.
The former Agnes Irene Reeder was born July 9, 1933, in Keithsburg, Illinois, the daughter of John and Bernadine (Hall) Reeder. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Barnhouse, on July 2, 1955, in Keithsburg. The couple shared nearly 47 years of happy marriage (Charles claimed they never got into a single argument), prior to his passing on February 23, 2003.
Agnes worked for Bituminous and State Farm before settling into a career at the Rock Island Arsenal, from which she retired.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, volunteering in many capacities over the years. Her church community was unquestionably her second family. She enjoyed thrift and antique shopping, making flower arrangements, and going out to eat. She was an avid Indiana Fever fan. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Agnes, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Agnes is survived by two children and their spouses, Charlene and Steve Thor of Galesburg, Illinois, and John and Claire Barnhouse of Blue Grass, Iowa; three grandchildren, Sarah (Rickie) Jones of Zionsville, Indiana, Matthew Thor of Carthage, Illinois, and Jaclyn (Aaron) Jordan of Edwardsville, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren, Ava and Ryan Jones, and Charlotte Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her granddaughter, Jennifer Thor; and siblings, William Reeder and Marilyn Petty.
