William Robert ''Bob'' Schwartz

Moline, Illinois William R. "Bob" Schwartz, 92, of Moline, died Sunday, January 19, 2003, in Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Reverend A. Parker Lewis III will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ, Moline, or a favorite charity. William Robert Schwartz was born June 12, 1910, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Walter C. and Lethian (Woodruff) Schwartz. He graduated from Bloomington High School and attended Brown's Business College in Peoria. He married Oleta Fae Hainline on March 14, 1937, in Bloomington. He was an operating engineer and also worked with his father in Schwartz Construction Company, Moline, from 1939 until his retirement in 1974. The Schwartz company installed all the brick paving on Moline's 19th Street, from 3rd Avenue to 23rd Avenue, in 1936. After the brick business died out, the firm switched to asphalt, and installed most of the asphalt tennis courts and playgrounds in the Quad Cities over the years. Bob and his wife moved to Lead Hill, Arkansas, in 1981, and lived there for 14 years. He was a 60-year member of Bloomington Lodge #43, AF & AM; a 50-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #150; and a member of the Union's Retirees Club and Hope United Church of Christ, Moline. He was formerly active in Boy Scouts. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Oleta; two sons, William R. "Bob" Schwartz Jr. and his wife Mary Lou of East Moline, and Paul H. Schwartz of Moline; five grandchildren, Susan Schwartz, Kathryn Schwartz, Marty Tarmann, Kelly Romeo, and Stacy Hornbuckle; and seven great-grandchildren.
