William R. Coakley

William R. Coakley, 70, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, March 17, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Services to celebrate Bill's life will be held Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, beginning with a visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room. Friends are welcome to join the family immediately following services for Harris Pizza and drinks at CityView Celebrations. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany for Children & Families or Hope Lodge in Iowa City.

Bill was born December 13, 1948, in Aurora, Illinois, to Rollins and June (Decker) Coakley. He earned his B.A. in Geology from Augustana College and went on to work for Moline School District 40 as a custodian at Bicentennial Elementary School in Coal Valley. He married Denise Murphy on June 8, 1996, in Bettendorf, Iowa.

He enjoyed gardening, golfing and making jewelry. He also loved playing poker and made the best cookies ever. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Bill, especially his grandchildren and great-grandsons.

Bill is survived by his wife, Denise; children, Rick Johnson of Punta Gorda, Florida, Kendra (Paul) Lowe of Pinellas Park, Florida, Amy (Kevin) Huntington of Moline, McKenzie Marshall and Joshua Marshall, both of Washington, Illinois, and Amber (Wes) Mielke of Moline; grandchildren, A.J. (Carrie DeCrane) Depauw, Kara (Joey) Thurman, Essence McGrew, Noah Marshall, and Jaxen and Emersyn Mielke; great-grandsons, Joseph and Nolen Thurman; siblings, Nancy (Bob) Coakley, Beverly (Bill) Cowan, Beth (Rich) Gozdecki, Dr. James (Gayle) Coakley, and Patti (Chris) Allinger; many nieces and nephews, including Mark Willard, with whom Bill was very close; and his Goddaughter, Merrie Boyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Danny Boyer.
