William Jay Hannan, Jr.

East Moline, Illinois Services for William Jay Hannan, Jr., 59, of East Moline, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport, Iowa. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, for a memorial in his name. Mr. Hannan died Saturday, September 29, 2001, in his home in East Moline. He was born July 10, 1942, in San Francisco, California, the son of William Jay and Yrsa Elise (Thomsen) Hannan. He graduated from the former Davenport High School in 1960, and from Oberlin College in 1964. He received his masters degree in American History from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also did additional graduate work. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a grants analyst for the U. S. Department of Transportation. He then volunteered as grants director for the Sign of Jonah Clinic in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hannan served Oberlin College on the Alumni Council and as his alumni class president for many years. He was an active supporter of classical music groups and organizations, and was an accomplished pianist. He is survived by his parents, Yrsa and W. Jay Hannan, Sr., of East Moline; his sister, Joan Hannan of Vienna, Virginia; two nieces, Robin Garlem and Deborah Rosenblum; and a nephew, David Rosenblum.
