Wayne R. "Ron" Schmacht

Wayne R. “Ron” Schmacht, 72, of Cambridge, Illinois, died Sunday, December 27, 2020, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.

A gathering to celebrate Ron’s life will be Noon to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Bettendorf VFW Post 9128, 2814 State Street, Bettendorf. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Private burial with his first wife, Gloria, will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.

Wayne Ronald Schmacht was born April 22, 1948, in Rock Island, to Carl and Isabel (Horton) Schmacht. He married Gloria Gordon on August 22, 1970, in Moline. She died June 21, 2003. He married Kathy (Williams) Henderson on October 21, 2018, in Davenport.

Ron served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and went on to work for several area construction companies and nuclear plants. He was a gifted woodworker and enjoyed camping and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; three daughters, Angela Schmacht of East Moline, Heather Olson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mindy Schmacht of Ocola, Florida; two step-children, Shannon (Mike) Baylor of Fort Greely, Alaska, and Trevor Henderson of Davenport; grandchildren, Ashleigh Schmacht, Faelen Thompson, Brooke and Gage Olson, Lyric Schmacht, and Tiani, Marcus and Terrell Blanks; step-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Roarke DeCock and Lawrence Baylor; great-grandchildren, Ayvah, Demetrius, and Leila; and siblings, Carl Schmacht of Cambridge, Eddie Schmacht of Rock Island, Karen Ackerland of Florida, Kathy Wilson of Maquoketa, Iowa, Ron’s twin, Roman “Donny” (Pat) Schmacht of Page, Arizona, and Tommy Schmacht of Moline; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved puppies Paisley and Sage. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gloria; siblings, Rita Rico, Carmelita Branham, David Schmacht, Carol Burkhardt, and Walter “Babe” Schmacht; and his puppy Rebel.
