Wayne F. Farber, 89, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, October 30, 2006, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Cremation will follow the gathering.
Wayne Fillmer Farber was born September 12, 1917, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Benjamin Harrison and Emma Sophia Fillmer Farber. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1936. He married June J. Willis on August 22, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa. He owned Wayne Farber Builders and was a self-employed home builder for many years, and had never completely retired.
He enjoyed inventing and engineering, and was a patented inventor and had submitted designs to NASA. He loved cutting wood and mowing his field, motorcycling, riding until he was 75, fishing, boating, playing cards and shuffle board, and wintering in Florida for 22 years.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 68 years, June; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kathy Farber, Mike and Vickie Farber, and Lee and Julie Farber, all of Coal Valley; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Jim Farber of Coal Valley; and his wife?s sister and her husband, Fern and Ken Stropes of Erie, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin Farber.
