Wanda Hughes, 88, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, May 29, 2006, in Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Bethany Baptist Church, Moline, with Rev. Byron Hand officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, where Valley Chapter #274, Order of Eastern Star will conduct Services at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, where she had been an active member.
The former Wanda Ialeen Hughes was born October 8, 1917, in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of D. Elrow and Ola (Haney) Crane. She received degrees from Stephens College and the University of Missouri, both in Columbia, and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. She married John L. Hughes on July 20, 1943, in Columbia. He died February 3, 1998.
Wanda and John were baptized in the Baptist church in Ash Grove, Missouri, and were active church members since. She was past matron of Valley Chapter #274, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of XYZ group at the church. She enjoyed gardening reading, bowling, sewing, and traveling.
Wanda is survived by three children and their spouses, David and Donna Hughes of East Peoria, Illinois, Diana and Bill Rasmussen of Coal Valley, and Phyllis and Bruce Beneditz of Roscoe, Illinois, and seven grandchildren, Jon and Joy Hughes, Will, Marie, and Erik Rasmussen, and David and Art Beneditz. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Glenn Crane.
