Walter D. Shaw

Walter Dexter Shaw, 87, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

Graveside services and burial will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Avon Cemetery, Avon, Illinois. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at St. Augustine School House in St. Augustine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walter Shaw Memorial Fund at Trimble Funeral Home, 701 12th Street, Moline.

Walter was born July 19, 1934, in Vichy, Missouri, to Orin Leslie and Mamie (Gray) Shaw. He married Judith Marie Anders on March 20, 1955, in the Christian Church in St. Augustine. They had two children, Victoria Marie Shaw-Davis and Walter Scott Shaw. Walter worked as a farming assistant for 30 years in Fulton, Knox, and Warren Counties. He also was a custodian at Yorkwood School District, owned a restaurant in Dixon, Missouri, was a guard at Missouri State Penitentiary, a caretaker at Avondale Lake Club, and did neighborhood lawncare and handyman service. Walter’s favorite things were his family, John Deere Tractors, hunting, fishing, raising Charolais cattle, and teasing family and friends.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Victoria Marie Shaw-Davis; three grandchildren, Destiny Davis, Allen Davis, and Glen “Peanut” Davis, Jr.; ten great-grandchildren, DeMari Craig, Isabella Dawson, Zoey Colliar. Mackayla Riley, Leila Davis, Razy Davis, Autumn Garcia, Serenity Mayo, Hanah Winchester, and Sage Garcia; two great grandchildren, Aiden Winchester and Ellie Winning; four brothers, Frank, Bobby, John, and Eldo Shaw; and two sisters, Ollie Swank and Lou Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; his son, Scotty Shaw; his son-in-law, Glen Davis; brothers, Leslie, Joe, and Roy Shaw; sisters, Faye Fritz and Nellie Pullman; and his companion, Ella Davis.
