W. Newberry Smith

Sue A. Smith, 79, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died quietly at home on Monday, January 16, 2012, surrounded by her family and friends.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Sue Ann Taylor was born and raised on the Taylor Family Century Farm in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and delivered by her grandmother, Mary Ann Jacobs Jennings Campbell because the doctor was busy with twins. She was the eldest of three children born to Lynden Chester and Lucinda Jane Jennings Taylor. She was born on April 30, 1932, and married Stanley Eugene Smith on October 4, 1951. He died January 11, 1989.
Sue was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, and the Warm-Hearted Widows group of the church. She was an avid Teddy Bear collector, loved watching her Little House on the Prairie tapes, and shared a close relationship with her many friends at Deseret Apartments in Rock Island and the widows group. The love and care she received from Ruth, Jean, Donna, and Joyce brought her great joy, comfort, and peace. She was blessed to always be surrounded by loving friends and family.
Sue is survived by her four children, Michael Eugene Smith and his wife Shirley of Moline, Illinois, Debra Sue Wagamon and her husband Steve of Illinois City, Illinois, Cinda Cathleen Lambert and her husband Randy of Channahon, Illinois, and Mitchel Lynn Smith and his wife Julie of Moline; six grandchildren, Tom Pierce, Jeff Smith and his wife Melissa, Andy Smith and his fiancée Kristin Kowalski, Joshua Smith, Brian Smith, and Brittani Smith; siblings and their spouses, Kay and Hugh Terwilliger and Alan and Becky Taylor, all of Mt. Ayr; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandchildren, Suzanne Renae Pierce and Alan Michael Smith; her parents; and her father-in-law, Hayden S. Smith.
