Kenneth Holliday, 77, of Coal Valley, died Monday, January 19, 2009, in his home.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Randy Willers officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, where he was a member, or to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson?s Foundation.
Kenneth William Holliday was born November 16, 1931, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of James Sr. and Edith (Campbell) Holliday. He graduated from Rock Island High School and served in the U.S. Navy for four years and the Naval Reserve for nine years. On June 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marilyn L. Jones at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Rock Island.
Ken was previously employed by the former Augustana Book Concern as a linotype operator, the Daily Dispatch, and George Evans Corporation.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Assistant District Commissioner, District Commissioner, and Cub Master of the former Blackhawk District. He was also involved with the Civil Defense as Deputy Director. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 246.
Ken enjoyed attending his daughter?s activities in which she was involved with the Special Olympics.
Ken is survived by his wife, Marilyn, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Julie Holliday of Davenport, Iowa, a daughter, Debra Holliday, of Coal Valley, grandchildren, Thomas and Allyson Holliday, and a brother and sister-in-law, James Jr. and Marion Holliday of Turnersville, New Jersey.
