Moline, Illinois Virginia Lee Swanson, 85, died Sunday, December 12, 2004, at home after a brief courageous battle with ovarian cancer, surrounded by her family. Services for are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Elim Covenant Church, Moline, with The Reverend John Jacobi officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or Pathway Hospice. The former Virginia "Linnie Lee" Engholm was born second of twins to David and Hannah Grear Engholm in Moline on December 27, 1918. She married Kenneth Swanson on April 16, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. He died September 14, 2001. She worked at the Strombeck factory in Moline and was a homemaker. During their retirement, Kenny and Virginia enjoyed traveling to many places, but especially their cruises to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, and Alaska. She was a charter member of Elim Covenant Church in Moline, served as President of the church's Women's Fellowship and was famous for her cream puffs at church bake sales and gatherings. She loved to cook and bake. Having family and friends for Sunday dinner and birthday celebrations brought her and others much happiness. Her twin, Lorraine Cannell, Moline, and sister Shirley Anderson of East Moline survive her. Her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Nancy Swanson, East Moline, and her grandchildren, Maria Swanson, East Moline, Julia and Andy Neece, and Anna Swanson, all of Moline, are also survivors. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends mourn her death. All who knew her will miss her loving, gentle way. Her husband, Kenneth and her parents preceded her in death.
