Virgil E. Nice

Virgil E. Nice, 85, of Aledo, Illinois, formerly of Sherrard, Illinois, died Friday, April 15, 2016, in Genesis Medical Center, Aledo.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial will be in Sherrard Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in CityView Celebrations on the lower level at Trimble Pointe. A funeral luncheon in CityView Celebrations will follow the burial. Memorials may be made to Nourish to Flourish.

Virgil Edward Nice was born June 18, 1930, in Preemption, Illinois, to Warner August and Ruth Estelle Bingman Nice. He married Nancy Anne Harder on December 16, 1950, in Rock Island. He was a welder for Montgomery Elevator Company and later Kone Elevator for many years, retiring in 1993. He previously worked at Republic Electric, Rock Island. He attended New Windsor Presbyterian Church, was a doting husband to Nancy, loved gardening, and enjoyed fishing, and woodworking, and having morning coffee with friends at Corner Mart in Sherrard.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Nancy; seven children and their spouses, Polly and David Timberlake of St. Joseph, Missouri, Lee and Kris Nice of Sherrard, Mary and John Hergert of New Boston, Illinois, Annette and Weldon Sippel of Ocala, Florida, Sally Salmon and Mike Zehr of Sherrard, Mark and Sandy Nice of Preemption, and Tobbi White of California; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Maynard Nice of Moline and Ned and Mary Nice of Alpha. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harvard Nice and a sister, Betty Tomlinson.
