Viona N. Marlin

September 1, 1935 — January 21, 2021

Viona N. Marlin, 85, of East Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, January 21, 2021, at home.

A gathering will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Burial is in Hopewell Cemetery, Jefferson County, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline.

The former Viona Nelle Rich was born September 1, 1935, in Jefferson County, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Grace (McPherson) Rich. She married Richard Marlin on April 13, 1957, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She taught adult education classes and was a bedside tutor for the Moline school system, retiring in 1995.

She was a longtime member of Riverside United Methodist Church (formerly First Methodist Church). She loved cooking and sewing, making most of her clothes early in their marriage. She demonstrated the “new” microwaves at Bacon-Deering when they first came out in the 1970’s. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Viona, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viona is survived by her beloved husband of over 63 years, Richard; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Barbara Marlin of Moline; a daughter, Gina Marlin of East Moline; three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and siblings, Minta (Chuck) Rainey of Salem, Illinois, and Don (Mary) Rich of Centerville, Illinois.
