Vic Kadlec

Vic Kadlec, 85, passed away at his home in Bettendorf, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family on January 25, 2016.

Services celebrating Vic's life are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Grace Evangelical Free Church, Davenport, with Reverend Bob Bressert officiating. Private burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Prior to services, cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame, Genesis Hospice or Grace Evangelical Free Church. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is serving the family.

Victor Jay Kadlec was born on June 28, 1930, the son of Victor and Tellena (Vosdingh) Kadlec. He spent his earlier years in the Cedar Rapids area before settling in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Vic earned the Eagle Scout award in 1946, and was a graduate of Springville High School in Springville, Iowa. In 1951, Vic enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Alexandria, Louisiana, and traveled the country playing softball for the Air Force Team.

He was united in marriage to Betty Sears on May 6, 2000, in Davenport, and lived in Bettendorf until his death. Vic spent his early work career in insurance data processing. After a career in insurance sales and management, he retired from Prudential Life Insurance Company in 1993.

Vic's skill and passion for softball led to his induction into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame, Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame and Quad Cities Softball Hall of Fame. Vic was on four winning World Series softball teams. Vic also enjoyed woodworking and maintaining his home and yard in Bettendorf.

Vic was an active member in his church, Grace Evangelical Free Church. In retirement he was active in the Quad-Cities Morning Optimist Club. Vic enjoyed spending his winters in Mesa Arizona enjoying the warmer weather, friends, family and playing softball.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Betty, his daughters, Karin (Jim) Barthel of Golden, Colorado, and Judy (Bob) Kadlec-Fuller of Denver, Colorado; step-sons, Todd (Lisa) Sears of Geneseo, Illinois, and Troy (Kevin Fullmer) Sears of Salisbury, Maryland; granddaughters, Megan, Brittnee (Ryan), Kaitlin, and Kaylee (Steve); grandsons, James (Katie), Gage and Parker; a brother, Harvey (Mary) Kadlec of Frisco, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and a large loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Joyce Wohlk, his parents, and his brothers Truman and Verne.
