Veryl H. Barlow, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the funeral home, with The Reverend Dr. Mark Gherke officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association.
Veryl Hagy Jones was born October 4, 1929, and raised in Bramwell, West Virginia, the youngest daughter of Haskew B. and Lena Hagy Jones. She married George M. Barlow on June 18, 1948, in Bramwell. He died September 24, 2007. They moved to Silvis, Illinois, and later to East Moline, Illinois, where she and George raised three children. Following her husband?s retirement, they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico where they both enjoyed warm, sunny weather for twenty-two years before returning to Moline in 2005. Veryl loved cats of which she always had one as a pet. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling, especially to the mountains. She was a member of the Silvis Heights Methodist Church Women?s Circle as well as the Rio Rancho New Mexico Ranchettes.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, George Harry and Debbie Barlow of Moline, Susan C. and Dale Smith of Coal Valley, Illinois, and Ann S. and Randy Oldenburg of Moline; grandchildren Jennifer Barlow, Alice Ann Sivertsen and her husband Ryan, Patrick Smith, Brady Barlow, Tyler Barlow, and Reece Oldenburg; three step-grandchildren, Katie Leihsing, Kelly Moore and her husband Joe and Maggie Rummery; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Veryl was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George; a grandson, Michael G. Barlow; two sisters; and two brothers.
