On May 16, 1942, she married Robert Edward Klaus who worked for Eastern Air Lines for 32 years. They lived in Chicago, Florida, New York and Wisconsin, and had a wonderful marriage for 60 years. Verna and Bob were avid square dancers, and she enjoyed knitting, reading, and gardening.
Verna is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Libbie and Samuel DeTrent of Rock Island; two granddaughters and their husbands, Laura and Brian Krumm of Chicago, and Elizabeth and Brian McCarthy of Bethesda, Maryland; and a brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Thoni Jensen of Alaska. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, and six half-brothers.
