Verda E. Housley

January 5, 1922 — September 26, 2019

Verda E. Housley, 97, of Walcott, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Wheatland Manor on September 26, 2019. Right up until her final minutes the sound of pleasant conversation during countless games of Uno with her friends and family often filled her room - along with tunes by her ultimate country music crush, Alan Jackson.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Verda was born on January 5, 1922, in South Dakota, to Sylvester and Ella Wenger. Fiercely independent with a sharp sense of humor that never faded, Verda's life was as colorful as the decorative brooches she wore on her sweaters.

After graduating high school in Minnesota, she moved to Davenport, Iowa. She worked for the Quad City Tank Arsenal, where she met her husband, Ivan. She raised her three children to be kind and compassionate - traits that would remain at the forefront of the family for generations to come.

As a friendly "people person", Verda went on to sell Avon door-to-door. Years later, she became employed by the United States Post Office, retiring in 1983.

In retirement, this card-playing, traveling, bowling enthusiast was active in the church community and was never too busy for a chat with anyone who needed it. She taught crafts at the Friendly House and was a life member of the Wildlife Organization.

Verda was wonderfully devoted to her children, Georgia (Gary), Craig (Donna), and Richard (Maria). She was a proud grandmother to Shannon, Courtnee, Bree, and Evie. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Katelin, Eleanore, Emmett, Simon, Warner and Wells. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Rich.

Her laughter, warmth and with will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
