Reynolds, Illinois Funeral Services for Vella Hessman, 80, of Reynolds will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Reynolds United Methodist Church, the Rev. Robert Schoolcraft officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is Monday at the Reynolds United Methodist Church from 4 to 8 PM. Memorials may be made to Reynolds United Methodist Church, Buffalo Prairie Cemetery, Serenity Hospice or Western Illinois Home Heathcare. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements. Vella died on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at her home with her family by her side. Vella was born on July 23, 1921 in Duncan Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Joseph and Evva (Pullen) McCormick. She married Donald B. Hessman on December 23, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1998. Vella farmed with her husband in Rock Island and Mercer Counties. Having an egg delivery service in Reynolds gave her the nickname of ''Egg Lady''. She also dressed and sold chickens. Vella enjoyed basketweaving, gardening, playing cards, bingo, and needlework. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, naming her special cat after her favorite player, Sammy. Vella enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them. Vella is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon and Albin Sowash of Titusville, FL; Linda Hessman of Deepwater, MO and Mary Kay and Craig Johnson of Reynolds; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Mary Hessman and Kent and Colleen Hessman all of Reynolds; 10 grandchildren and their spouses: Lisa and Matt Bowman, Lonna Sowash, Alan and Vickie Balmer, Kristin Johnson, Jennifer and Darren Jaros, Matthew, Mark and Elizabeth Hessman and Jennifer and Ryne Hessman; 4 great-grandchildren: Maggie and Margo Bowman, Riley Johnson and Jake Balmer; 2 sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Jeanne Parchert of Reynolds and Margaret and Richard Jaecques of Clifton Hills, MO; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence ''Buck'' and Janet McCormick of Monahans, TX and Kenneth and Deanna McCormick of Gold Hill, OR. Vella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Judy Hessman, brothers, Everett and Clarence McCormick and a sister Verlea DeKeyrel.
