Coal Valley, Illinois Thomas W. McCarthy, 81, formerly of Coal Valley, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Family and friends will proceed from the funeral home at 2 p.m. to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Thomas William McCarthy was born July 15, 1922, in Buffalo, New York. He married Marian Castner on January 10, 1948, in Buffalo. She died September 21, 1986. He was a wood pattern marker and worked for various pattern shops around the country. He served in the U. S. Navy in WW II. He was of Catholic Faith and was a member of VFW Post #2153, Moline. He enjoyed watching old movies, telling old war stories, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Tom is survived by six children and spouses, Cheryl and Peter Lugo of Fairbanks, Alaska, Maureen Walston, Lynne and Desmond Rigg, and Karen McCarthy, all of Moline, and David McCarthy of Phoenix; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Salay of St. Augustine, Florida.
