Thelma L. Wells

Moline, Illinois Thelma Simmons Wells, 89, of Moline, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Reverend Janice Griffith will officiate. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or Moline Boys Choir. The former Thelma Louise Simmons was born October 11, 1913, in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of George and Isis (Chapman) Simmons. She married Gordon F. Wells on October 5, 1932, in Bourbon, Illinois. He died December 20, 1999. In earlier years, she worked as a nurses aid. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, and Katharine Walther Circle of King's Daughters. She enjoyed Bridge, golf, Bible study, teaching Sunday school and the church choir. Thelma is survived by three children and spouses, Beverly and Charles Orr of Fairborn, Ohio, Kermit Wells of Moline, and Carol and Alan Anderson of Geneseo, Illinois; five grandchildren, Dirk Orr, Kyle Orr, Kimberly Farb, Scott Anderson, and Kelly Yager; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Tully of Bridgeport. She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, Ann (Orr) Molton, and sisters, Kathleen Tuttle and Freda Lappin.
