Ronald D. Schmidt, Sr., 71, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Colona American Legion or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Ronald Duane Schmidt was born February 4, 1940, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of John and Margaret Taube Schmidt. He served in the U. S. Army, and married Zelma ?Garrie? Garrison on October 13, 1961, in Paris, France, where they met. She died December 14, 2004. He was a welder at Lift Systems for 17 years, retiring on disability in 1999. He was a member of the Colona American Legion Post #1233, and an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
Ron is survived by four children and their spouses, Dawn Schmidt and Barry Laud of Moline, and Kim Schmidt, Ronald Jr. and Lori Schmidt, and Chris and Nicole Schmidt, all of Coal Valley; nine grandchildren, Sam and Julie King, Joey and Justin Parsons, and Christopher, Kaitlyn, Parker, Noah, and Hunter Schmidt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Donna Schmidt and Gary and Pat Schmidt, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; and his special grand-dog, Chunk ?Walter? Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, John ?Jake? Schmidt and Don Schmidt, and a sister and brother-in-law, Bev and Ollie Bearman.
