Jerrold R. Doerr, 75, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, in the home of his daughter in Peoria, Arizona.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Janet Waychoff of First Baptist Church, Rock Island, officiating. Visitation is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson?s Disease Foundation.
Jerrold Robert Doerr was born July 12, 1935, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Robert Heede and Reithel Elizabeth (Morley) Doerr. He married Esther Marie Pearson on September 13, 1958, in Moline. She died December 18, 1987. He married Barbara Cleveland on October 1, 1988, in Moline.
Jerry lettered in football and baseball at Moline High School, and went on to play football at Illinois State University before joining the United States Army in 1955, serving one and a half years in Japan. He worked in the Deere & Company Corporate Office for one year before serving as a General Accountant and later Computer Systems Manager for John Deere Plow & Planter Works. He worked for Bethany Homes in Moline as CFO for ten years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Elks Club in Moline, Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, and the Green Valley American Legion. He enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming, bicycling, and computers.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara Doerr of Green Valley, Arizona; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and William Henry of Peoria, Arizona; step-sons, Gregory Cleveland of Menifee, California, Geoffrey and Joanie Cleveland of Black Hawk, Colorado, and Scott and Michelle Cleveland of Guilford, Connecticut; nine grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Loren Beaumont of Rock Island, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Doerr of Peoria Heights, Illinois, Charles and Susan Doerr of Moline, and Michael Doerr of Pocahontas, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
