February 12, 1952 — November 8, 2020

Steven T. Gannon, 68, of Moline, Illinois, died peacefully at home on Sunday, November 8, 2020, after a courageous and determined battle with cancer.

Mark DeSutter officiating. Mask, social distancing, and size of gathering protocols will be in force. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Steven Thomas Gannon was born February 12, 1952, in Canby, Oregon, to Leo Christopher and Almeta E. (Spielman) Gannon. He attended Rock Island High School and graduated from Alleman High School in 1970. He completed a rigorous apprenticeship as a pipefitter and plumber and worked in his trade for nearly 40 years. He was involved in many large commercial projects, including nuclear plants, chemical factories, and large processing facilities. He remained a loyal member of Plumber and Pipefitters Local #25 for nearly 50 years. Steve married Kathy Herschman in 1970, and they later divorced.

Steve enjoyed boating and classic car restoration, especially a vintage Rivera with his younger brother. After retirement, he could be found on early morning walks and bike rides, as well as fishing trips and luncheons with a close group of friends from grade school and high school. Steve shared his parents’ enthusiasm for good coffee and enjoyed frequent coffee house outings with his brothers. In retirement, he was generous with his energy and skill in helping family and friends.

Survivors include his companion of 21 years, Charlotte Hoover; daughters, Jennifer Behymer and husband Mike of Overland Park, Kansas, and Danielle Gannon of Waukesha, Wisconsin; granddaughters, McKenzie and Avery Behymer; grandson, Aidan Behymer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. David and Lois Gannon and Mike and Susan Gannon, all of Rock Island, and Tom and Lisa Gannon of Waukesha; and nephews, Tim, Matt, Sean, and Kyle Gannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Gannon and Almeta Gannon Math; and a cousin, Michael Humphries.

Steve’s family extends special thanks to Steve’s supportive friends, Mark, Craig, Jamie, Jim, and Jack, as well as Dr. Porubcin and Karri, Cheryl, and the rest of the oncology team at Illini. Friends are invited to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
