Shirley L. Ballard

Shirley L. Ballard, 83, formerly of Moline, died Thursday, September 20, 2001, in Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Reverend Kathleen McCafferty will officiate. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline.

The former Shirley Louise Hoffman was born June 19, 1918, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Grace (Goller) Hoffman. She graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1936, and married Walter W. Ballard on September 14, 1940, in Peoria. She was a member of Bethel-Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, and a former member of St. John's Methodist Episcopal Church and Forest Hill Methodist Church, both in Peoria, and Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Moline. She was a member of the Church Official Board and an officer in United Methodist Women, both in Peoria and at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, and had taught Church School in Peoria for more than 20 years. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed baking cookies, embroidering, and gardening.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Walter; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ernest L. and Diane Ballard of East Moline, and Dan W. Ballard of Moline; and four grandsons, Todd, Eric, Michael, and Jeffrey Ballard. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leonard Hoffman.
