Shelba J. Lawson, 71, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 10, 2010, in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be in the Lawson Private Mausoleum at Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Shelba Jean Smith was born March 7, 1939, in Guin, Alabama, the daughter of Leburn and Elaine Bryan Smith. She married Lloyd D. Lawson on July 14, 1967, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. She was employed by Ameritech and AT&T for 32 years, retiring as Manager of Operator Services in 1990.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and a former member of American Business Women?s Association and Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, sight-seeing, knitting and reading.
Shelba is survived by her husband, Lloyd; siblings and their spouses, Charles and Delores Smith of Stitzer, Wisconsin, Rosa Ledgerwood of Norfolk, Virginia, and Tonnie and Joseph Renholz of Hampton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
